The bombing targeted a bread-selling stand at the entrance of Al Fakhoura UNRWA school, a shelter for thousands of displaced Palestinians. For 11 months, Israel has continued to prevent food from reaching starving Palestinians, ensuring death even for those who survive their aggressive bombing campaign. In August, Israel almost doubled its previous rate of denials of entry to humanitarian aid missions, compared with July, according to the United Nations. The intention is clear. Kenneth Roth, the former executive director of Human Rights Watch, described the WFP attack as part of “Israel’s starvation strategy,” suggesting that the Israeli government is using food deprivation as a tool to weaken Gaza’s population.
