We had the same issue with the Zak. Then we trimmed the bottom and worked amazing.

I think the Zak cups you have to bend the straw a little while drinking and it opens up

b.box weighted straw cup is our favorite..similar style to the munchkin one but it's leakproof and the lid twists on like normal! we have graduated to the Zak but my guy is 18 months

for the Zak cups sometimes I have to pull the straw up a bit so the little vent hole next to it isn't stuck but all 3 of Mt kids love them ( 5, 4 and 2)

Owala sippy straw cup is my fav off Amazon. I have the stainless steel one for my daughter and it’s amazing. Keeps water/milk cold. Bomb proof and i like the soft straw incase she ever falls drinking
