President Donald Trump intensified his feud with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Thursday, accusing the New York Democrat of encouraging political violence following a recent assassination scare involving the president. In a fiery Truth Social post, Trump claimed Jeffries should face charges over his repeated use of the phrase “maximum warfare” while discussing Republican redistricting efforts. Trump linked the rhetoric to the attempted attack that occurred days later at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. “This lunatic, Hakeem ‘Low IQ’ Jeffries, should be charged with INCITING VIOLENCE!” Trump wrote. The president also shared side-by-side images showing Jeffries holding a sign featuring the phrase “maximum warfare” alongside photos of Trump and adviser James Blair. Another image referenced alleged attacker Cole Allen storming a Secret Service checkpoint at the Washington Hilton just days later. Trump then posed the question to his millions of followers: “Should Hakeem Jeffries be charged with inciting violence?” Jeffries quickly fired back through social media, dismissing Trump’s remarks as “another deranged rant” while criticizing the administration over rising living costs and economic concerns. “Gas prices are sky high, grocery bills are surging and families can’t catch a break,” Jeffries wrote on X. “Democrats are about to take back the House and you’re losing your mind.” The clash comes after Jeffries previously defended his use of the phrase “maximum warfare” amid backlash from Republicans. During a press conference in late April, Jeffries refused to apologize for the language and argued the phrase originally came from a White House staffer discussing GOP redistricting strategy in 2025. “That phrase ‘maximum warfare everywhere, all the time’ came from the White House,” Jeffries said. “Now they’re mad because Democrats decided to fight back.” Despite the criticism, Jeffries has repeatedly stated that he opposes political violence in all forms. In a recent interview on “Fox News Sunday,” he stressed the importance of responsible rhetoric from elected officials and emphasized that Americans ultimately want what is best for the country.#fyp #viral
