This fascinating creation houses around 4,500 cactus specimens from some 500 species from five continents 🌍. César Manrique chose a former volcanic sand quarry (known as a "rofera") that had been used as a landfill in an agricultural area. This area was once home to vast prickly pear plantations dedicated to the cultivation of cochineal. Manrique rehabilitated the area, creating a work of great landscape value. After 20 years of creation, the Cactus Garden 🌵 has become an architecture full of decorative and sculptural elements that blend harmoniously with the natural environment. There are also volcanic stones 🌋 and basalt monoliths transformed into sculptures, bearing witness to the history of earth extraction. But it's the liveliness and exoticism of the cacti that captivate visitors. The shapes, textures and colors of these plants create a truly poetic setting. This site, internationally rewarded🎖️, is considered one of the most important cactus gardens in the world. [Fr] Le Jardin de Cactus 🌵, situé à Guatiza dans la municipalité de Teguise, est la dernière grande œuvre de César Manrique à Lanzarote. Cette fascinante création abrite environ 4 500 spécimens de cactus provenant de quelque 500 espèces des cinq continents 🌍. César Manrique a choisi une ancienne carrière de sable volcanique (appelée « rofera ») qui avait été utilisée comme décharge dans une zone agricole. Cette zone abritait autrefois de vastes plantations de figuiers de Barbarie dédiées à la culture de la cochenille. Manrique a réhabilité cet espace, créant ainsi une œuvre d'une grande valeur paysagère.
