Unused and everlasting checks shouldn’t be a thing and aren’t a thing cause of fraud. And the info for gift card have to be kept somewhere (servers) thats don’t have infinite space.

idk if it's the same everywhere but at least in my state it's illegal for gift cards to expire visa vanilla gets around that by being considered a prepaid debit card

Companies keep it a secret but gift cards don’t expire, you paid the money into it and that money doesn’t disappear. On a specific item need to give you the cash equivalent if item no longer available

personal checks expiring makes sense if you think about it. Big companies gift cards expiring does not.

This is why we use gift cards immediately now. Same with checks. Otherwise they get lost or forgotten and then expired. Also with Visa you can tell the cashier the exact amount or use it online.

They don’t… it’s illegal for gift cards to expire. Not gift certificates. But gift cards are not allowed to expire- it would be bad for the economy

Checks are not money until cash, there are valid reasons. Gift cards (store, Visa, MasterCard, Amex), it's the states that allow this maintenance fee. In Washington State they never expire
