@iamjojoofficial: Addiction, according to Dr. Gabor Maté, is “any behavior that a person craves, finds temporary relief or pleasure in but suffers negative consequences as a result of, and yet has difficulty giving up.” In my memoir, “Over the Influence” I share about my journey to shed the need to numb out my own feelings and instincts while prioritizing other people’s approval over my own.  When Mom or Dad “fell off the wagon”- I swore I was so much stronger than them- and I’d never give in to what I was told was waiting for me in my genetics (addiction)- I actually got high on that self-righteous feeling- until I found myself trying to fill the same void in my own ways that they were both trying to fill with their respective drug of choice. This ride so far has been humbling, thrilling, heartbreaking, odd-defying, and I wouldn’t change any of it. I’m grateful to be able to share my little stories with you. Mad love, Jo.
