I’m not a native German speaker but “Wende” still means change or turning point in German so I could imagine “Wendemann” and “Wendefrau” being used in another reality

also, in just now reading about this after seeing ur video, i came across the word wæpenwifestre in thomas wright’s 1884 anglo-saxon and old english vocabularies, meaning hermaphrodite. i can’t find any examples of it in use from the anglo saxon period but wright purports it was from the vocabulary of a certain abbot aelfric, which i need to do more digging into. anyways, i thought it was interesting 😁

this whole concept is really cool, something you could consider with the nb version is that complex consonant structures got reversed sometimes so maybe it would be closer to næwtikand

…so am I good to use these in fantasy writing I may or may not publish? Because I have been looking for something to use that doesn’t feel so modern

German here, wende as well as Kind are still used in Germany. Wenden, as was already said, means to change or turn around and Kind means child in German so wendekind would be a turning/reversed child
