I use different social media platforms to build my personal brand and share content, each serving a unique purpose. Starting with TikTok, I primarily use it to establish my name in the HR industry. With over 100 videos, mostly focused on HR and business, I also comment on articles to spark discussions. TikTok has been the easiest platform to grow my following, with 23k followers in four months, and I enjoy its quick engagement. Next is Instagram, which has been harder to grow due to the differences between reels and posts. I share more lifestyle content, like family and pets, which I don’t post on TikTok. Although my growth on Instagram has been slower, I appreciate the reels feature for catching up on people’s lives, celebrities, and brands. Facebook is a platform I took a break from due to political content during the 2016 election. Now, I use it occasionally to catch up with friends and family, often cross-posting content from Instagram. It’s more family-oriented compared to TikTok, which is focused on my profession and social topics. Clapper, with a different audience, tends to be more conservative. I use it to cross-post content, particularly videos about the economy, which perform well. The 3-minute limit is challenging, so I often post videos in full and direct viewers to additional content through links. YouTube is where I post long-form videos and shorts, mainly for fitness content. I haven’t mastered the algorithm, resulting in inconsistent views. Due to time constraints, I cross-post videos without reshooting them for optimal YouTube format. Lastly, on LinkedIn, I share valuable professional content, like tips on resumes, job applications, and interviews. I aim for helpfulness and credibility without delving into social commentary. Overall, I follow Gary Vaynerchuk’s advice on building a personal brand, ensuring visibility as an expert in my field. This helps secure career opportunities and positions me as a professional. Despite feeling old for social media, I focus on authenticity, consistency, and cross-posting to maximize reach.
