my mom always said she didn't want to be in ball. We just thought is was a mistranslation when not speaking your 1st language. We were in our 20s when we figured out it meant involved! We felt silly!

My mom doesn’t have a strong accent (to me) but she does have a pretty bad name recollection. She called Andrea Bocelli “Chipotle” pretty confidently and we had no idea who she was talking about 😅

I wrote all my wedding invitations out and my mother told me all the family ones were wrong. apparently the names my family used weren't their names. They all go by a different name than their given.

I worked for a Korean family (the nicest family on the planet) and they taught me a lot of Korean words because it was easier than them trying to pronounce English. We learned alot from each other!

I used to tutor math students. One advanced class used the Greek letter lambda a lot. But the professor had an Asian accent, so I had to teach all his students to stop saying "rambda." 😆

A friend of mine that is Chinese, thought her name was Sherry until she started kindergarten. She spelled out her name to the teacher, and the teacher told her that her name is Shelley! 🤣

Omg I love this story so much. 😂 There’s a road nearby called Lagrange and it wasn’t until I was a teenager did I know it was Lagrange. I thought it was Lock-rage because my umma called it that. 😂
