one of my professors once told us how a dentist she was working with did a root canal on the wrong tooth!! Ur definitely not alone, a little extra numbing won’t hurt compared to that 😭😂

You’re allowed to numb for someone else? We can’t in my state & it’s a bit annoying bc some of DH’s don’t have certificates & it’s easier to get me in there instead of dr😩

I did this the other day , they were working on #24 and I numbed #25 but the lady was super nice but I was so embarrassed 🙈

It’s okay. I told my dr that he did a filling on the wrong pt. The person on the schedule was an adult female. I thought the pt in the chair was a male child. It wasn’t. It was the right pt and I sure called her buddy multiple times. They will never let me live this down

I did this during hygiene school on a srp patient. I was on a rotation and told the doctor to numb the right side but actually needed the left side numbed I was so embarrassed 🤦♂️

At least you caught it girl! So many doctors I’ve assisted would numb the wrong side and i would speak up or mention what were working on that day & they realize they messes up lol

I set up had dr numb and did srp on the wrong side(numbing was on wrong side as well) I had started this new job and missed a note that said previous hygienist had completed that side already….

I did this twice early in my career but with worse injections than just an MSA. Don’t feel bad! It teaches you to double check.

in the army we have to do a verification step before giving anesthesia. and then once again before drilling. no one wants to do a PSR on a wrong site surgery (surgery meaning irreversible)

Oh girl I’ve been there and it was for SRP. Luckily I only needed topical! Things happen boo! I triple check the schedule and the treatment plan! Because sometimes the schedule is wrong too!

Doc I was assisting extracted the wrong tooth, I broke a crown prep off in a temp I was making and caused the lady to need an ext/bridge, OS ext all of pts teeth by accident somehow, mistakes happen!

I did this in DH school, numbed the WHOLE left side of the mouth including a palatal. 😭

My biggest fear when numbing my pts for SRPS! I double check the schedule 1000 times b4 I inject & also stand behind my pts head & put up my fingers in L shape to make sure I’m doing the right side 😭

I’ve totally done that as well and it sicks! To this day I will double check and then as soon as I insert I panic and think I still did the wrong side!

I think the patient would much rather be numbed on the wrong side than the wrong teeth extracted!!! I know you probably feel horrible because you absolutely care but honestly it didn’t cause harm!!

I know you’re embarrassed but girl! It’s all good!!! I’ve seen patients that dentists have pulled the wrong tooth or did rct on the wrong tooth!

No bc we’re all such perfectionists!!! Dentists make this same mistake all the time and they just move on about their day- meanwhile I would be the thinking about this for the rest of my career 🤣
