@dusty_cartridge: I bought this retro astro wars game from a car boot but it isn't working with batteries. do you know anything about electronics can you help me fix this what am I doing wrong?? #electronics #retrolook #gamer #retrogaming #retro #videogames #gaming #gameroom #gameroomsetup #dustycartridge
Might be the connector the power lead fits in. When you put the power adapter in, it shuts off power from the batteries. It may be broken inside and not switching it back to batteries.

There will be something that stops the batteries being charged by the power adapter. This may be a diode in the battery line or the power connector has a disconnect switch when the power plug is in.

it's the adapter socket isolates the batteries when the adapter is plugged in ... this isolation swich inside is the issue. .

First make sure you have continuity through the black wire.then check continuity through battery connector to the other end of wire at the power input.keep chasing the power through the wire & board.

Deffo a good board. Look carefully at the rivots. That secure the Battery connection. They often corrode internally. I see it all the time

You need to check the traces on the board. Get a multimeter and check them.

Unplug the power supply and it should run on the batteries alone. The power cable needs to be unplugged for it to run in batteries alone

I just had a look at the red wire from the battery compartment. it looks like it is connected to a point on the power jack. ll am thinking maybe there is a switch to change from power to battery.

that's not the right connector ! it has previously been repaired with a different connector ! it should break contact to the batterys when the adapter is plugged in 🤷♂️
