GM designed the hood to be a crumple zone when in a crash, it was a good idea but classic GM poorly executed.

Actually yes you should always oil your hood hinges, especially if you live in an area know for rust and corrosion. I’ve needed up accidentally bending a 71 mustang and a 68 satellite hood

push back and pull down. every long hooded vehicle with no cowl from the 70s is the same. Cordoba/chargers do the same thing.

From what I’ve heard the square body hoods got redesigned and there’s a ton of metal up by the hood latch, so if you close it form the front the weight comes down before the whole hood and bends it

My grandpa figured out if you’re running into a tree at 30 miles an hour the hoods if they cave in and don’t fold, will never fold again problem solved
