I’m all for people exploring and loving the ocean, but we need to respect the wildlife that calls it home. Take as many photos and videos as you like, but please, don’t touch or chase turtles. Let them come to you naturally if they’re curious—forcing an interaction can cause stress to these beautiful creatures (and they can bite). If you’re planning to go on a snorkel or diving tour, make sure you choose a reputable organization that prioritizes marine life. Not only will you help protect the ecosystem, but you’ll also have a more enjoyable experience watching these animals in their natural state, undisturbed. Some best practices include keeping your distance (at least 6 feet away), moving calmly in the water, and avoiding sudden movements that could startle the animals. Also, remember not to stand on or touch the coral, as this can damage an entire reef system that turtles and other creatures rely on.
