Go over and ask the painters for a business card. It’ll scare them off trying because they know you’ve been close enough to see their faces, and you’ll be able to give the card to police just in case

Definitely listen to your intuition. Some cheap things you could do are get some window / door sensors that will go off if opened. You can also install floodlights that go off if there’s movement

Crazy there isn’t a homeowner code and other visitor/contractor codes. Those things are so easy to change, just like an airbnb door code. Give them a separate code and if they share it then you know.

Also, buy those door stoppers. They make ones for sliding doors and doors with knobs. I believe they sell them at Home Depot. It stops people from being able to kick your door in

also leave lights on in different areas so that they think someone is home, start inviting friends over more, try not to do stuff at the same time everyday so they cant learn ur schedule

I was just going to add make sure EVERY neighbor knows. Doesn’t matter if they are down the street. Neighbors are the number one crime deterrent!

You can have your local law enforcement do extra patrol in your neighborhood. Could help deter potential people when/if they see officer presence. Plus more peace of mind for you, stay safe!
