@johnsfinancetips: When presented with automatic tip options be sure it’s calculated based on what you consumed and not the sales tax and or service charges. #tip

But why have tip if there is already service charge? That's already the amount for the service provided.

That’ll show the restaurant who’s boss, definitley not just taking money from a server who relies on the tip

Some restaurant will include the 20% service charge AND STILL ASK FOR TIP 💀

Yup, I never trust the percentage calculations on the bottom. Tip on total before tax only.

I subtract any “service charge” or whatever bs fees restaurants feel entitled to tack on from the tip

why is tip contingent of the cost of food? why shouldn’t i give a $5 tip at any cost?

Just write in your own tip. If there was an actual service provided to you.

Here’s the thing, as a server, we have to tip out to the kitchen staff and bartenders a percentage of the bill. That percentage is based off tax as well, not just the food. So tip on the full amount

I’m a math nerd & noticed that many of the “suggested” 18, 20,& 25% are NOT on the SUBTOTAL, BUT often as u mentioned, after tax! My husband always has me check before we tip (he’s NOT a math guy lol)

Everyone who has ever worked at a restaurant knows to tip only pre-tips pre-tax. Only problem now is they had that 4% junk tax which taxes on top of sales taxes
