Builder here. Good idea to apply silicone as the water could travel under the basin and rot out the substrate as its only partical board. Pascoe make a Matt silicon that dosnt stand out

4 years on from not adding silicone to 2x basins and it’s totally fine. Very rarely does water ever get come close to going under it.
