The point here is accuracy. The artillery delivered munition is far less accurate and can easily be countered by covering it with dirt where it does get in your trench. Meanwhile the drone is pinpoint

Burn time matters for incendiary munitions, height at ignition matters for burn time. The drone most likely allows for a much lower height of ignition without sacrificing area of effect.

It is more cost effective to use the drone since almost all of your munitions are on target and are adjusted in real time. Ultimately you use fewer shells which simplifies logistics, too

I think it’s the threat of counter battery artillery that makes thermite drones preferable, Also if they tend to use these in Kursk it’s much safer to use drones then risk losing millions in equipment
