Sometimes priority questions can feel like this! 🤯 –Tips for answering priority question – 🧠THINK: Which patient needs my attention RIGHT AWAY? Yes, it sounds obvious. But these questions can be sneaky. Think about major issues & what the options might be indicating (increased intracranial pressure, myocardial infarction, cardiac emergency, breathing trouble or loss of a patent airway, etc.) ❗ABCs should ALWAYS be in your mind: 🌬️Airway: Does the patient have a PATENT airway? Are they able to manage their own secretions? Is there distress present? Is there swelling of the airway caused by something such as anaphylaxis? 🫁Breathing: Is the patient able to breathe normally? Is the patient exhibiting altered breathing patterns or a rapid decrease in oxygen saturation? Is the patient exhibiting stridor, use of accessory muscles, gasping, etc.? 🫀Circulation: Is the heart pumping as it should be? Is there bleeding present (external or internal) or signs of loss of blood volume? Circulation can also be assessed by capillary refill, blood pressure and heart rate, EKGs, etc. ⭐Pain is rarely the immediate priority 🛟Safety is ALWAYS a priority! 🧠Think to yourself “who is LEAST stable & MOST in danger?” when given priority questions between several patients Remember, practice questions are MOST HELPFUL with these, as you’ll understand the rationales, how to answer the questions, and what the NCLEX really focuses on. You’ll learn to critically think and naturally progress to prioritize in a clinical setting, but it takes time! Practice, think thoroughly and rationally, and remember… you got this. #n#nursingnotesn#nursesofIGn#nursetokn#nursesoftiktokn#nursesR#RNB#BSNL#LPNL#LVNN#NCLEXprepN#NCLEXN#NCLEXpracticen#nursingn#nursingschoolnursereels #greenscreen
