Andrea Camacho :
can confirm. I have yet to use my relatively cheap $30,000 bachelor's degree in any meaningful career way 😬

Anyone who has ever hired a plumber, HVAC, welder, or electrician, etc. knows that the trades are in high demand & make very good money. Non-degree jobs are where it's at now!

It all depends on your skill sets…you will never be a Sr Dir/VP making $500+k a year without a degree…but you can certainly make $500k owning a plumbing business…

husband and I don't have degrees but have decent jobs to pay the bills. We homeschool our kiddos and tell them college isn't necessary, depends on what they want. I bought your books for our oldest!

I still cannot convince my wife that college is not necessary for most of life’s jobs

whether you approve of college or not getting a skill as a fallback plan before college could only help.

Amen! Shackling your child with the debt that college now requires shows that the return on investment is not there for many degrees! Glad you made the degree free way!

I can confirm my husband graduated medical school in 2002 and we are still paying student loans and we have said multiple times if you would’ve invested into a trade and we are now just breaking even

How well you do in life is really based on how well you network. It's always been who you know vs what you know.

I got my degree to be a teacher in 1988. The ROI at that time still sucked for teachers but it was and still is the only way to be a teacher. But now?? I would NEVER recommend anyone be a teacher.

I do not believe in college in anyway. I do believe in trade schools and targeted education programs. As a truck driver i easily can make $100k/yr with no formal education.

I feel like people are missing the part where there still is an investment in your child. it's just instead of a 100,000 student loan you spend 20k on private tutors or licensure courses or whatever

That last part about the fafsa after 25 is such an important fact to consider. Again thank u for bringing awareness to all these issues and offering an alternative perspective.

Ended up taking 3 extra classes I didn’t need bc the counselor didn’t tell me when I signed up for them that they wouldn’t apply to my degrees - had to drop out bc I ran out of money & time

I am a parent of a recent graduate and I completely advocated for deferring college and choosing a paid skilled free program which we will get on the job training and payment in something interesting

Agree. have a college degree, and work in my field. However, that was the best path for me. But will absolutely help guide my children on what is the best path for them.. college or not.
