The British Bulldog had been fired from WCW after suffering a very serious back injury that almost ended his career, when he landed on a trap door meant for the Ultimate Warrior to come through the ring later on the Fall Brawl PPV. After Owen Hart's death, Bret was disappointed to see Davey give interviews: "I couldn’t believe it when Davey said that Owen’s death was just an accident, and that it was nobody’s fault. "Who was Davey to say whose fault it was, when the police were still investigating what had happened? "Davey then vowed that he’d return to the WWF to win a title in Owen’s honour." He said Vince's offer him and The Anvil jobs was "in effect bribing Ellie and Diana to be on his side against Owen’s widow." Sadly, Bulldog's return - noted for now wrestling in jeans - is now regarded as a disappointment. Despite some high profile matches (including *that* dog food match against The Rock) he was mainly kept in the mid-card as he couldn't reach the same levels in the ring as his peak. He was released in 2000, and sadly passed away two years later.
