When I first moved to the south, the teachers lost their damn mind when I wouldn’t call them ma’am or sir. I came from the west coast.

I had a kid from New York who said the f word was the only cuss word. did not actually think anything else was a cuss word bro. he was a good kid though

It’s most definitely a southern thing! I teach students that come from all over the world, but by the time they leave my class they know to say yes ma’am or no ma’am.

I was raised in the Midwest by southern parents from Mississippi. I still say mam & sir to my elders, we also speak when entering a place. East coast ppl come into meetings not saying good morning 😭

My little New Yorkers will look an adult right in the eye and say things that would have gotten me ended as a kid in Kentucky. (They’re very direct. Also they ignore strangers in most contexts.)
