@daniellewebsterfit: The more you know 💡 The thoracic lats (upper) have the best leverage in a sagittal plane pulldown (arm in front- so neutral or underhand grip). The lumbar (middle) and iliac (lower) divisions have the best leverage in a frontal plane pulldown (arms at sides-standard wide grip pulldown). The side delts work a bit more in a lateral raise whereas the front delts work a bit more in a press. They do get worked in both though! For more lats in a row, limit t-spine extension by keeping a neutral spine as much as possible, don’t pull far past body (lumbar and thoracic fibers extend a bit posteriorly so you can pull a bit past body) and think of driving your elbows to hips. For more upper back in a row, get bit of T-spine extension to disadvantage the lats and drive elbows back and behind body. This will target traps, rhomboids and rear delts.
