@carolvorders: On November 7th last year, I was sacked by the BBC for refusing to be silenced. I tweeted five times, critically addressing the Conservative Party, and in doing so, I violated their social media guidelines. But for me, those guidelines felt like a gag order—an attempt to stifle my right to hold power to account. Two of those tweets simply expressed my hope that criminal proceedings would follow regarding Michelle Mone and the PPE contracts, yet that was deemed unacceptable. What’s more troubling is that, within 24 hours of my dismissal on November 8th, the BBC decided to keep Huw Edwards on board—despite serious allegations emerging against him at the time. The same people who were outraged by my tweets were less concerned by far graver matters. This raises a question that haunts me: why was criticising a political party more offensive? There’s something deeply wrong here. This is more than just about me; it’s about freedom of speech, accountability, and the right to hold power to account. Note that Tory BBC Chairman Richard Sharp who was disgraced and forced to resign in 2023 had helped to facilitate a loan guarantee for Boris Johnson but failed to declare his actions. Sharp also donated £400,000 to the Tory party. Tory Robbie Gibb (appointed by Sharp) who sits on the BBC Board of Directors was Head of Comms for Theresa May at No 10 when she was Prime Minister. His brother was Tory Schools Minister Nick Gibb. Tory Tim Davie is the current Director General. Do you see the pattern?

So the chair of the BBC can donate huge sums to a political party but an employee can’t speak out against them?!
