@jp.apexperformance: Why do I sprint in my training? As a dunker, I’m required to produce A LOT of force VERY quickly. Rate of force development is a key component that separates the bad jumpers from the good, and the good from the great. People tend to get caught up on the muscles (maybe because they’re what’s visible) but RFD isn’t solely about the muscles in isolation. The neural aspect is huge, and sprinting is an effective tool in training both the muscles and the nervous system to become elite. As you can see in this video, if you compare the ground contact times in my acceleration (this time will decrease even further as I get closer to max velocity) with the gct in my vertical jump, sprinting is significantly faster…time is a constraint that leaves me with two options.. either produce a ton of force quickly, or be slow. I like to keep sprinting in my training year round, playing with the volume depending on the emphasis of my training at any given time. One last tip I’ll leave you with is to be careful when introducing sprinting into your training if you haven’t been sprinting as of late. Your hamstrings will NOT be used to the contraction velocities that they will see in max velocity sprinting. I like to start guys out doing 10 yard sprints, and build that distance out over the course of several weeks, or even months depending on the athlete. • If you’re interested in 1 on 1 coaching, fill out the link in my bio for a free consultation! • #basketball #dunk #sprint #NBA #trackandfield #jump #fast #verticaljump #dunkademics #hooper #volleyball #training #workout #tips #advice #fly #strong #power #ballislife #hooper #slamdunk #float #viralvideos #reels #instalike #jpdunks #apexhumanperformance
