I was told the term “break a leg” was said in theatre because your goal is to “be in the cast” 😂

Its a theatre term! The “leg” is the beginning of the stage. And “breaking” means crossing. So “break a leg” is theatre lingo for “go on stage”

It’s break a leg bc when you audition for a part or role (specifically in movies or plays) you’re in a “cast”

It does come from centuries ago when they believed it was a jinx to just say “good luck.” There’s a lot from that time like “step on a crack, break your mother’s back.” And, I don’t get it either!
