I remember as a kid wondering why all the adults were making fun of Al Gore for caring about the climate

My family is Muslim. I remember what it was like for us right after 9/11. Stares at the grocery store, people avoiding us or being rude to us. We went from a normal everyday family to pariahs overnigh

"a generation away" is so real. the other manager closing with me wasnt alive for it and she was asking me what it was like and if the jokes offend me

I think a big part too is that they literally played the footage every. single. year. so now so many of us are just desensitized to it because like “yeah yeah we get it two planes hit two buildings”

exactly like the loss of life really is a tragedy & i will never mock the people who lost loved ones, but the “message” sent by the attack has 0 weight on my mind and the sustained reaction to it was ridiculous. ive very literally had people tell me 9/11 happened bc middle easterners “hated our freedom” which is such insane propaganda. & the fact that from 6th to 12th grade i was forced to watch horrifying documentaries about it in school every year; what purpose does that serve? other than to terrify and instill a hatred in young kids against an enemy that doesn’t exist?

I always think about how the government abandoned the first responders when they needed healthcare for the cancers caused by rescue effort

The Harbinger of Dawn :
The government as a whole typically does not want real solutions to our problems. because if we don't have issues, they have nothing to hold over us so they can stay in power

I think the 90s were the last decade where there was a chance for human civilization to save itself. I hate the feeling that it's too late, but it increasingly looks that way.

I will nvr understand why ppl expect the US to do any sort of growth from tragedy when they have been using “tragedies” as excuses for war for YEARS

I think another huge part of why so many young people joke about it is because we were exposed to it from such a young age. Watching videos of deaths of innocent people from early elementary school(1)

I remember being in the third grade just wondering why they wheeled a TV into my classroom to show us the attack. we were supposed to go over the times table that day.

it's also because a lot of us feel no connection to it. plus if you understand the historical realities that lead up to it, it's really ultimately the United State's empire that's to blame.

It’s because everything is memory-holed so there is no perspective or accountability. It’s what’s done with American history in general.

I was always so confused why there wasn’t a national bank holiday in memorial for it? Just a moment of silence in school, I’m not sure they even do that anymore.
