@drbeckyatgoodinside: You ask your child to do something and are immediately met with “I’m NOT doing that!” or “You’re the worst!” or maybe even an eye roll… we’ve all been there. Here’s the thing, when our kids are in a rudeness stage, we need to prioritize connecting when things are calm, outside of a tough moment. Our kids are more likely to cooperate when they feel seen, heard, and respected by their parents. I know this can be hard. I’ve been there. And I know it’s the key to turning things around in your home. If you’ve been dealing with rudeness, talking back, defiance, ignoring, or any other “bad” behavior in your home, I’ve got you covered. I will say hey - I’m speaking to you nicely and with respect. Can you speak to me nicely and with respect ? And that usually shakes my kid out of his attitude.

I say in a gentle tone “I don’t like being spoken to like that. Could you try saying it again in a kinder way?” And it works really well and seems to be building my kid’s empathy skills

What if your child’s tone of voice most of the time is rude. One of my children has a very pedantic tone, and my younger child is imitating her sister’s rudeness. So now I have two who are this way.

Ugh! It’s so hard to stop & think in the moment to give the mature response. It’s much easier to go along with the knee jerk response & react, but for a better relationship with my kid, I will try.

“I hear you “is my least favorite phrase as well as that’s makes sense. Just insincere and overused

About nr. 3. I think it is important for us to teach the kid, and remind them frequently about other ways to say something, and not just assume that they know.
