@.khalidhashi: Abdi Iftin shared the story of his mother, a resilient nomadic woman from southern Somalia. She grew up herding goats and cows, often walking hundreds of miles without knowing she lived in a country called Somalia until she was 17. Borders didn't matter to her, and she often wandered into Ethiopia unknowingly. His parents met while herding animals and married just before the devastating famine and drought of 1977. They moved to Mogadishu, where his father found work playing basketball. The city life frustrated his mother, who was used to the nomadic lifestyle. Despite the challenges, they became a middle-class family with food and a home, though without luxuries like TV or a fridge. Abdi fondly remembers his father carrying him on his shoulders every Friday after training, and enjoying simple joys like visits to the snack bar. Abdi Iftin said, "My mother, a very strong nomadic woman, grew up herding goats and cows, walking several hundred miles. She never knew she lived in a country called Somalia until she was 17.
