@formerly.known.as.levi: Fact-checked information from the first 2024 presidential debate between Donald Trump & Kamala Harris has been flowing ever since their September 10th showdown in Philadelphia & the statistics are staggering. Trump spoke for 43 minutes of the 90 minute debate, compared to Harris’ 37 minutes of talk time. In that time, Trump made at *least* 33 false statements that have been fact-checked by multiple unbiased sources, which averages out to about one every minute & a half. Some of his most notable “nontruths” from the evening were: 1. Trump falsely claimed that abortions are being performed in the 9th month of pregnancy & even after the baby is born in some cases, going on to accuse Harris of supporting the “execution” of newborns. No state has ever allowed an #abortion in the 9th month, nor have they ever allowed a baby to be killed after it’s born. 2. Trump claimed the US has experienced “the worst inflation ever” under the Biden-Harris Administration, which is incorrect. #Inflation peaked at 9% in 2022, but the US faced higher inflation rates during the 70s & early 80s. Today is September 13th & the inflation rate is 2.5%. 3. Trump falsely claimed that Nancy Pelosi was responsible for the lack of security during the Capitol riots on #January6th of 2021 & that she rejected his offer of 10,000 National Guard troops. However, there is no evidence to support this claim & the security decisions were made by the Capitol Police Board. 4. Trump incorrectly stated that no judge looked at the merits of his lawsuits challenging the #2020election results. In reality, several courts did review these cases & many were dismissed by judges that Trump had appointed due to their lack of evidence. 5. Trump repeated a falsehood that immigrants in #SpringfieldOhio, were eating pets. This claim, rooted in both racism & xenophobia, has been thoroughly debunked by local authorities such as the city manager & law enforcement. 6. Trump misleadingly claimed that Harris had a plan to #DefundThePolice which is false. In 2020, Harris called for “reimagining” public safety & reallocating resources for things such as mental health services for those in crisis. She has never supported defunding the police. 7. Trump repeatedly accused others countries of emptying their prisons & “insane asylums” into the streets of America, even saying that #immigrants are “coming in, and they are taking (pause) jobs that are occupied right now by African Americans & Hispanics.” This is also untrue. There have been no reports & no evidence to support these statements. #HarrisWalz2024 🌴🥥
