Putty’s great but Read the instructions on your base or sink. Many specify not to use plumbers putty

I replaced these things ALL the time for an apartment complex and I always use putty. Definitely have replaced well over 100 and never had an issue

A fun tip to try out if you’re open to it is putting the beading of putty in the interior edge of the fitting prior to installing it. Granted, I’m no pro but I’ve had better luck that way

Silicone on prefab pans only because eventually the pan flex’s and the putty cracks and causes a leak, silicone has a little more flexibility
