In 2012 hostess filed bankruptcy, Apollo management saved them, took 4 years for them to return to the market & snickers acquired hostess in 2024. Hostess disappeared from shelves for several years

They weren't discontinuing Twinkies, they were shutting down as a company. Someone bought the name within about a year and started making them again.
