@snakersusa: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐬 - 𝐑𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐬 (Hemachatus hemachatus) 𝐇ighly 𝐕enomous -𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 🇿🇦 The Rinkhals also called the Ringhals or Spitting cobra (Hemachatus haemachatus) is a quite venomous Elapid species found in parts of southern Africa. It is one of a group of cobras that has developed the ability to spit venom as a defense mechanism. If distressed, Rinkhals spread their hood, showing their distinctive, striped neck. Like true cobras, Rinkhals can spit their venom. Their spitting mechanism is primitive due to which the snake has to rear up and fling its body forward to spray its venom. It generally rears up and flings its body forward as it sprays its venom because unlike true spitting cobras, its aim is very poor but it can spit without doing this. It is also known to fake death (thanatosis) very convincingly by rolling onto its back with its mouth agape. • • • • • • • • • • Courtesy: Odin Nelson #Hemachatushemachatus #therinkhals #ringhals #ringneckedspittingcobra #highlyvenomous #elapidae #snake #DeadlyStrike #naturesfury #highlyvenomous #whotofollow #conservation #savesnakes #savewildlife #herping #snakes #serpent #reptiles #herpetology #viralreelschallenge #viralpost #viralreelsfb #viralreelsシ #viralpage #viralshorts #trendingvideo #trendingreels #snakers #thesnakekeeper #reptilesofwild ----------𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐟 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝 𓆗𓆙𓆈
