@theschooloflife: The Empty Chair Technique is liable to be especially helpful to those of us who had to grow up to be extremely good boys and girls. There may be few opportunities to be anything but when dad is an alcoholic or has a violent temper, mum is neglectful or a sibling is very ill. We may lack any knowledge of how to complain because, in our formative period, we sensed correctly that our survival depended upon meekness and good humour. We learnt to smile and appease, when we would have needed a long wail at the unfairness and cruelty of it all. Our silence may have won us a safe enough passage into adulthood; its ongoing nature threatens to ruin the remaining years. Follow us for useful ideas, everyday.
when I talk about someone I often put it in first person regardless and I let more things out. I empty chaired myself

I typically do this when driving and pretend they're in the passenger seat and it most often helps me be able to articulate and advocate for myself for when I do have to confront the person

My therapist tried it; but as I would be talking to my younger self. That felt weird at the time. It was a long time ago. Wondering how it would feel now that I love her 🤔

I was wondering whether you could use this technique, not just to talk to a person that has hurt you but to talk to a 'disease' that has taken a loved one away? As an emotional release?
