I usually hook the auger to the skidsteer bucket and lift in the air and stand on the ground fixing the top end. Seams a little safer plus usually forget something and can get it easier.

I know you may have but didn’t show it. But I hope you didn’t just tighten that collar with only the set screw. You have to drive it around to lock the two together with a hammer and punch.
