Osu Kannon Temple, officially known as Kitanosan Shinpuku-ji Hosho-in, is a prominent Buddhist temple located in the heart of Nagoya, Japan. Established in 1333 by the monk Noshin, the temple was originally situated in what is now Hashima City, Gifu Prefecture. To protect it from frequent flooding, Tokugawa Ieyasu relocated the temple to its current location in 1612 . 🎇 The temple's main object of worship is a wooden statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, believed to have been carved by the renowned Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi (Kukai). This statue miraculously survived the fires that destroyed much of the original temple structure .🏯 Osu Kannon is also renowned for its extensive library, housing approximately 15,000 classical Japanese and Chinese texts.
