I’m well aware of the amazing train system we USED to have. I constantly saw roads in my town paved over railroad tracks. It’s about what we could have if we prioritised trains over automobiles

What are lot of people miss is we converted most of our rails to move freight. The Mediterranean makes it easy to float cargo relatively close. We have to move it into the interior in bulk.

USA airlines collude and have been penalized for it. I’m in Italy now, and we’re going to have a strike this Friday. Second strike in two weeks.
