@interestingengineering: We now have the ability to remotely control excavators at distant locations. That means we can reduce the impact of any excavation site. It also ensures humans are safe from any instability or danger on-site. 📸: LinkedIn/ Daniel Miravalles

I’ve been running excavators for years and if you sit in the seat, you feel everything if you’re 600 miles away yes you’re going to hit something.

I cannot see hiw this is better. A good operator need to feel the machine the ground the way it is responding to the touch of the sticks. This cannot be the same remotely

also can't tell if dirt is good or bad. soft or solid. or if a part malfunction. so stuff can be seen in the feild before it happens compared to looking at a screen.

I can see the use for it in known clear places such as beach work or places with know soft soil but if ever in in rural or certain places definitely impractical

Been running excavators for over 40 years and remote units are for training. Real operators are in the seats. You feel ever thing on the machine and know when something wrong.
