im too poor for a distortion pedal so i simply max the volume knob and overdrive on my amp (sounds great, but i have to be careful not to leave the volume higher than 2 or my eardrums will bleed 😭)

Good tip for clean. Overdrive tones often need the vol pot all the way up.

Turning down the volume makes the sound dull, dark on muddy on a lot of guitars, especially my Squier JMJM. I shouldn’t have to have to rewire it to make it work. I prefer to use a active volume pedal

How do you get rid of the buzz sound on an amp when not playing anything

You are using the headroom in your amp the right way. The tone is still coming from the amp circuit and the warming tubes. The hotter tubes = better tone:)

Is this true with humbuckers? Cause I tend to like my guitar dimed but my amp has to stay pretty low 😅

Depends on the music you're playing. Guitar volume can be used in all sorts of ways, including switching between distorted and clean tones without a pedal

Works only if your volume pot is wired vintage style, without the treble bleed cap. I find in some non typical wiring the loss of highend is not so drastic.

Without a treble bleed you’re cutting off a lot of highs and it becomes quite muffled past 5 on a linear pot

truly the biggest game changer. i used to chase tone from amps, guitars, and pedals. once i learned how to use volume, i could plug in and play anything and make it sound like “me”
