@stridewithgabby: The best thing I ever did for myself? I started again. After college and wrapping up my cross-country career, I took a long break from running. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get back into it. I kept myself busy in the gym strength training, but something felt off. Running used to bring me so much joy, a sense of accomplishment and strength, but I was hesitant to start again, knowing I’d be starting from scratch. One day, I finally decided to just go for it. I laced up my shoes and ran 2 miles—easily the hardest 2 miles I’ve ever run since college. I felt frustrated and couldn’t stop thinking about how good I used to be, and how much slower I was now. It wasn’t easy, and the temptation to quit was real. But I had a choice: I could either sit in that frustration, or keep showing up for myself. So, I chose to keep going. Those first miles were tough, but over time, I built up again. The joy, strength, and confidence I felt from running came back. It reminded me why I loved it in the first place. Fast forward to now- I am less than a month away from running my very first World Major Marathon in Chicago!? I can’t believe I’m even typing this. 🥹🥹 If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that starting is the hardest part. But once you do, you’ll remember why you began in the first place. If you’re thinking about starting something—whether it’s running or anything else—just take that first step.
