@fascinatedbyfungi: This past weekend I drove up to the Humboldt coast for some late summer mushroom hunting. Some summer rain coupled with intense fog along the coast led to an abundance of #chanterelles. Alongside my friend Kyle, we managed to find all four species that can fruit in California during the summer months. The first is the most common #pacificgoldenchanterelle #Cantharellusformosus found with Doug Fir and Spruce, then we found the elusive but gorgeous #RainbowChanterelle #Cantharellusroseocanus growing with Shore Pines, the chonky pale #CascadeChanterelle #Cantharelluscascadensis with Doug Fir and Hemlock, and the ghostly #WhiteChanterelle #Cantharellussubalbidus with Doug Fir, Pine, and Tan Oak. What a fantastic lineup of delicious edible mushrooms! . Keep in mind that chanterelles can grow for an extended period of time, so as long as there is moisture (like fog drip) they can grow for up to a month or more after a rain event.
