you mixed up the planes of montion. the row is in the sagittal plane, the vertical pull is in the frontal plane(although it could also be sagittal)

What about pullovers to isolate the lats? I do all these and finish with pullovers. Every exercise only 1 set to failure but twice a week so 8 sets a week for the whole back
