I miss when my word/testimony was enough, but I wouldn’t want to do law enforcement today without a body camera. I panic a little anytime mine dies while I’m in the middle of a long call.

Had body cams when I was an officer. And I loved them. They helped in every situation. They helped good officers when bs complaints were raised against them. And they helped catch bad cops.

At LVMPD, my recollection is, the union successfully argued that body cams are a safety item and thus subject to collective bargaining. Officer’s received a percentage of a raise in exchange

Loved my bodycam. I usually agree with you, but because it’s a change in working conditions, it’s a meet an confer item and unions in many cases fought hard against them and slowed the process.

I remember when they first started, and it worked in favor of the officers so activists tried to make it so that officers couldn’t review the cameras before or while writing their reports

People that don’t know can’t understand that for every recorded abuse (the type that make it on social media) the protection it has provided from false complaints to officers is huge. I would now question a cop if they didn’t want it!

Always boils down to money. I understand the politicians have a job to do of protecting the bottom line, but that line is shattered when bodycams clear out lawsuits they may have had to pay without.
