As an attending physician, I barely even supervise the midlevels. It’s impossible, they are essentially independent even when there are strict rules. It’s an unfortunate reality

I prefer a PA or an NP because usually they take time to speak to you

Unfortunately as a bedside emergency RN, it because we are such a litigious society nurses and doctors and mid level providers are leaving the bedside

Number four in Georgia. Get yourself admitted if it looks like it could be serious. Gross negligence threshold in the emergency room.

That advice is good if you are given the opportunity to ask. They don’t even introduce themselves or even make eye contact with you. They are just horrible at communicating. It’s almost impossible

Great advice. Had a NP just about take my mom out. She wasn’t exactly sure how to treat a patient with kidney disease and heart disease. It’s okay to ask for another doctor or opinion.

Excellent advice! I would add to have an advocate with you if you are too sick to ask questions. Always ask what and why before you take or do anything.

I feel I'd be treated like shit after asking what level of provider. Actually, I know I'd be treated like shit. What happens with my care after? 😥

Beware of freestanding emergency rooms! They have VERY little to offer and virtually NO specialty care. Basically urgent cares with a cat scan. Avoid at all cost.

How do you handle hospitals tbh at are let’s say Catholic based…. Can they 100% refuse care to people even if they aren’t Catholic? Is our only hospital… unless driving 30/60+ min away

My mom was in the UCLA ER for 5 days due to no bed availability. Her care during that time was horrible. She declined and was taken into ICU in critical condition on the 5th day. In ICU for 5 days.

Tell them you are not staying!! That's step one. Step Two, get treated and get the hell out of there.

I was in the ER last week. I was so out of it, I could never have remembered this. I appreciate this info - I do - but it’s not realistic when ur in a crisis.

Can you speak on the trendy naturopathic practices popping up that have one doctor and NP administering hormones treatments NOT individualized for the entire company at multiple locations??

Empower college age kids to ask questions like this. My son lost use of his arm for a year after a medical resident did a middle of the night procedure without attending supervision.
