@anwar.indian: A 17-year-old student, Izzath, known for her involvement in the Punnol Pettipalam anti-garbage protest in Kerala’s Kannur district and for facing police action at the age of six, died after being hit by a train early Thursday morning. Izzath, daughter of P.M. Abdul Nasser and Maimoona (Ummulla) from Hira, Punnol Kurichi, was found dead near the Punnol Hotel Corrance. A student of Wadi Hudha Higher Secondary School, Pazhayangadi, and Ibn al-Haytham Academy, Vilayankode, Izzath had become a notable figure in 2013 when she, along with her family, participated in a protest against waste dumping in the residential area of Pettippalam by the Thalassery Municipality. At just six years old, a photo of Izzath being struck in the stomach by a police officer’s baton during the protest went viral, sparking widespread outrage over police brutality.
