Most people only notice the ITB when the outside of the knee starts complaining. It is not a muscle. It is a thick band of fascia running from the hip down the outer thigh to the tibia. When the tensor fasciae latae, glute attachments, and vastus lateralis stay tight, that band takes more load than it was built to handle. This is not a smash-it-until-it-surrenders session.
