Do you experience jaw pain and you’re confused as to what’s causing the issue? Try this Simple TMJ Jaw Assessment! In this video we examine 3 possible causes…⚡️Nerve, 🩻Joint, and 💪🏼Muscle: 1.)⚡️Nerve: If you are experiencing nerve pain, we must consider the fact that a nerve can be compressed somewhere, your nervous system may be hypersensitive either through central sensitization or peripheral sensitization, or you’re having a Neuroplasticity issue. In any event, we are strategies that we can do to normalize and calm down the nerves, and I list several of them in this video. 2.) 🩻Joint: If it’s an actual temporomandibular joint disorder, you’ll have more localized pain near the ear you will experience possible, clicking or shifting stiffness difficulty opening and your pain will be very localized, and generally induce when you move the mouth. You may also have a history of clenching, posture issues or trauma to the area if this is the case, we want to use joint type treatments to address it. 3.) 💪🏼Muscle: If this is a muscle issue, then you can use various strategies to treat the muscle such as releases, stretches, primers, etc. usually clenching or stress or past issues will cause this type of issue. There may also be muscle imbalance causing the muscles of the jaw to overwork and become sore and achy Now keep in mind that irregardless of what the major driving factors are it’s usually a combination of everything so you may want to start in one area to address more of the root cause. Understand that we need to balance the entire head, neck and jaw system if we truly want to rewrite the loop. Injuries to the head, neck and jaw region don’t come in the vacuum. It’s not one specific item only, and this is why so many people stay in pain for longer than necessary, because they only treat symptoms. If you need additional assistance figuring this out, comment ‘Jaw’ below and I’ll get back to you! #tmj #tmd Tmjdisorder #tmjtreatment #dentistryworld #dentistry #headaches #earache #neckpainrelief
