The Folded Napkin—And a Promise of His Return While the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying apart from the other wrappings. (John 20:7, NLT) When Jesus rose from the dead, He left behind an empty tomb—but not a disorganized one. The grave clothes were neatly folded, and the napkin that had been around His head was set apart, carefully placed. This small detail carries a powerful message: Jesus isn’t finished yet. The Napkin Was a Sign of Intentionality In Jewish culture, a folded napkin at the table meant the master wasn’t done—he was coming back. Had Jesus left the grave clothes in disarray, it might have suggested a hasty escape. But the folded napkin signaled **purpose and promise**—He would return. Jesus’ Resurrection Guarantees His Return The empty tomb proves His power over death. Just as He rose in victory, He will come again in glory. The folded napkin is a reminder: "He is coming back for His people". Jesus didn’t leave us without hope. His resurrection assures us that His promises are true. When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. (John 14:3 NLT) The folded napkin wasn’t just a detail—it was a declaration. Jesus is coming back, not as a suffering servant, but as a conquering King. Let us live with expectancy, holiness, and urgency, knowing that **He who rose will return!** Lord, today we come to You with grateful hearts. Jesus is alive — and because He rose again, we have hope that cannot be taken from us. Thank You for sending Your Son. Thank You for the sacrifice that made a way for us to be forgiven, restored, and made new. Thank You that what looked like the end was never the end at all. The grave did not win. Sin did not win. Death did not win. Jesus won. Lord, help us truly understand the weight and the beauty of this day. Not just as something we celebrate, but as something we live from. Remind us that because Jesus lives, we are not without hope — not in our struggles, not in our waiting, not in the parts of our lives that still feel unfinished. When we feel tired, meet us with Your strength. When we feel afraid, steady our hearts. When we feel heavy, remind us that we are not carrying life on our own. Forgive us, renew us, and draw us closer to You. Teach us not to overlook what You’ve done, but to live with a deep awareness of Your love, Your grace, and the power of Your resurrection. Let this Easter fill us with peace that stays, gratitude that grounds us, and faith that continues beyond today. Thank You, Lord, that Jesus is risen. And because He lives, we have hope — for today, and for everything still to come.
