@tomdraperacting: In acting, the ability to express what is felt in each moment is crucial to creating an authentic performance. This is known as impulse expression—the immediate reaction to a feeling without filtering it through too much thought. While some characters might have impulses they suppress, it’s important for actors to recognize and understand when to express or hold back these impulses, depending on the role. However, true authenticity in acting comes from having the courage to fully experience emotions and express them honestly. This can be difficult, as there is often a sense of separation between the actor and the material, a barrier that prevents the full depth of feeling from being expressed. To overcome this, actors need to allow themselves to be vulnerable, to be affected by the words, actions, and even the looks of others in the scene. This vulnerability allows the material to "hit" the actor, creating a genuine reaction. Whether it’s a line of dialogue or a silent stare, it must mean something and evoke a response that feels real. This level of truthfulness in performance is what connects the actor to the audience, allowing the character’s emotions to resonate deeply. #acting #actingskills #audtion #actingcoach #actingclass #actingtips #ActingChallenge
