@dw.science: Endometriosis has many different symptoms. But intense pain during menstruation is one of the signs most affected women have in common. Even though endometriosis is not curable, there are treatments that can help, with medication or surgery. Every 10th woman suffers from endometriosis, according to estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO). In addition to being extremely painful, it can cause infertility. In fact, in nearly half of all women experiencing fertility issues, endometriosis is found to be a factor.
