I disagree with the speaker. A mortgage is an investment. I bought my house for $250K. Today it is worth $560K. If I sell it today I make a huge profit. Secondly when I pay off the mortgage, I own it.

In Economics I learnt difference between an Asset & Investment. A house is an Asset but not an investment, it only becomes so if it generate an income for you at the end of every week\month
